Plan to visit the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, previously known as Villa Vizcaya and the Deering Estate. It is the former villa and estate of businessman James Deering on beautiful Biscayne Bay in the present day Coconut Grove neighborhood. The estate includes Italian Renaissance gardens, native woodland landscapes, and a historic village compound. Veneto and Tuscan Italian Renaissance architecture heavily influenced the landscape and buildings. The structures are reminiscent of the Mediterranean Revival style, with Baroque accents and elements. Today, it’s managed and owned by Miami-Dade County and is open to the public for sightseeing and photographing.

Mingle with the beautiful birds at Jungle Island. They enjoy introducing visitors to some of the world’s most rare and endangered animals, while educating guests about wildlife and conservation. There are numerous bird shows for your education and entertainment, but for us, the highlight is getting in an enclosure with partially wild parrots and monkeys. It’s not easy to find this part of the attraction so knowing about it ahead of time is a big help. You’ll being able to hang out with birds all around you and marvel at their interaction with the many monkeys that live with them.

Fairchild Tropical Gardens, also known for a section called “the Kampong”, is a magical place with an eccentric house and lushly planted grounds. It was the historic home of David Fairchild and his wife, Marian (daughter of Alexander Graham Bell). This hidden gem is located in Miami’s Coconut Grove. The property was bought by Dr. David Fairchild, and he had ambitious plans to grow a large variety of tropical trees and plants, creating a lovely garden right on scenic Biscayne Bay. Among the gorgeous vegetation, you’ll see towering palms, hibiscus bushes and other greenery right up to the powder-white sand of the shoreline. There are many paths down to the water that you’ll discover as you leisurely wander around the property. You can even go on a self-guided tour if desired.

Plan to stop at the Miami Beach Boardwalk & the Hollywood Beach Boardwalk. Miami’s is clean with surrounding foliage to provide shade for easy walking. It runs along the beach, tends to be always busy with a lot going on, so it’s perfect for people watchers! It’s also great for sunrise and sunset pics. There are plenty of areas for families, benches to sit on, and play areas for children. If you’re hungry, there is no shortage of restaurants close by. Hollywood Beach features a seaside promenade called the Hollywood Beach Boardwalk, and it stretches nearly two and a half brick-paved miles along the coast. It’s a favorite for walkers, joggers, bicyclists, rollerblading, and families pushing strollers that desire the comfort of nearby amenities, eateries, and coffee shops. Two Boardwalk parks, the historic Garfield Street courts and the dolphin play fountain to cool off in are both kid-magnets and family friendly.

If you’re in the Miami area, don’t pass up a wonderful opportunity to take in the best sites and firm up your sight-seeing itinerary from the comfort of a private limousine.
